"Philosophy is the talk on a cereal box,
Religion is the smile on a dog."

~ Edie Brickell, Song Title: "What I Am"
Those song lyrics seemingly cry out for humanity to lighten up.

We should all recognize that philosophy and the world's religions incessantly and distressingly try too hard to make sense of our existence -- to figure it all out. Well, they can't, and they won't! The end result has been a mad panic of anger, confusion, untenable concepts, and incompatible beliefs yielding a needlessly crazed and crippled species.

Why do so many people in this world seem to insist upon getting trapped in the muck of certain thoughts and ideas which are extraneous, hyperbolic, and outright delusional? And isn't it interesting that these people must always form in-groups so as to feed off each other in keeping it all going?

The simpler pleasures of a relaxed life and a rudimentary appreciation in the simple elegance and workings of the natural universe typically escape many of them as they're always too busy with asinine rules and ritual, and brooding over fantastic things no human can know. And springing from this limitation and unknowing comes a level of impatient frustration and denial that leads to creeds which ultimately drive them to blindly embrace indignity, self-loathing, and a wide array of other anti-human behaviors.

Why lose oneself like that?

We just "are"!

Accept that fact as well as the beauty in the simpleness of it. Appreciate all things that greet us through our five human senses. For in reality, that is all we can ever know. Beyond this, skepticism must rule the civilized day.

My dog Cole, is a very happy dog. He knows what he knows, and no more. He shows me there is no need to pretend otherwise. The simplest things often trigger in him, a wondrous delight, a sparkle in his eyes, and a perceived smile on his face that I'm always adding to my most cherished moments. Might dogs hold the secret to living with peace of mind and real happiness? Perhaps. However, with our complex human brain it's a much more difficult task for us.

But it does seem to me that gods have always been closely associated with human frowns and scowls, and plenty worse! So shed that heavy baggage of your unrealistic religion steeped in ancient fantasy, and stand tall and dignified in our modern age of science and discovery. Reverse that g-o-d into d-o-g. Stop pretending to know "stuff" which deep inside yourself you secretly admit you really don't. Free your conscience from those mind shackles of divisiveness, bigotry, self-righteousness, lies and utter nonsense. Instead, become sanely happy in the want of knowing only that which is actually true within the realm of reality.

Religion should be no more than the smile on a dog.

With strength in reason, I am,

Would you like to come join my death cult?
civwarfan | 26 juin 2008
Well I'm Anti-Theist and that story made made me physically ill. Science teachers are supposed to teach science in science and and not myths and legends from the leading death cult in the world.

Also if this prick branded my kid with a cross I'd brand his fucking knee caps with a shotgun gun. Let him pray his way out of that.

What an ignorant and bigoted savage this cocksucker is.

O and stay away from "AtheistsRcults". This guy is totally, completely, 100%, demonstrably and definitively insane. Not just crazy or nuts, but off the wall certifiably bonkers.

Hey man, just wanted to say thanks for the Carlin stuff. Ended up at two different of your videos today browsing for him, Olbermann and Larry King obits.

Cheers, RIP George.
