WHAT ARE EARTHKEEPERS?

OK, we made up the word, but it's not too hard to figure out. "Earth"—where we all live, plus "keepers"— guardians or protectors. Put them together and ta-da—a new way to call people who care about the environment.

So who's behind this?

We at Timberland started Earthkeepers because we love the outdoors. Making outdoor boots, shoes and gear is what we do for a living. No more outdoors means no more living. For us—or anyone else. Of course, we realize that by making our products, we're part of the problem. We believe it's time for companies, like ours, to take a look at how the way they do business affects the environment and do something about it. "Earthkeepers" is one way we're trying to do exactly that.

Calling all Earthkeepers. The Contest. Find out more...
So, you're and old pro when it comes to YouTube and Earthkeeping. Not so fast. If you want to win a prize for your video, we do have a few things to keep in mind:

1. Keep it short. Under 3 minutes please.

2. Use the official Earthkeepers logo somewhere in your video. You can download it here: http://www.earthkeeper.com/logo

3. We need your video by July 26, 2008.

4. The first round will be judged by us. Three Earthkeepers will each win $300 worth of Timberland® gear. We'll be looking for three kinds of videos—funny ones, those with the most unique Earthkeeping ideas, and those that really motivate and engage us.

5. The second round will be judged by you. One truly inspiring Earthkeeper Hero will win $5,000 for their cause. And priceless PR to get their message out. After the top 10 grand prize finalists are determined, you get the final say so. Don't forget to vote for your favorite Earthkeepers Hero September 2-14, 2008.

6. And lastly, but perhaps most importantly, if you do have your sights set on winning the Grand Prize, you'll have to create a movement after you confirm your entry. So first confirm your entry by clicking the "click here to confirm your entry" link in the email we will send you after you upload your video. Complete the form and click, "submit". Then follow the steps to showcase your Earthkeepers video using Changents -- an entire site dedicated to connecting social and environmental "agents of change" with people who want to support them. (Hint: they have lots of videos already posted to give you some ideas for yours.) To qualify to win the grand prize, you'll need to showcase your Earthkeepers video there and get people to back your cause. The top 10 entrants with the most backing on http://www.changents.com/earthkeepers, will be declared the grand prize finalists. Their videos will be the ones voted on by the YouTube community. The video receiving the most votes will win the Grand Prize.
